Cold Rolled Steel & Prepainted Cold Rolled Steel
Cold Rolled Steel
Cold rolled steel is the substrate used to manufacture Galvalume, galvanneal, and galvanized steel, and is also used in a variety of other manufacturing applications where gauge control and surface are critical, and hot rolled steel is not an acceptable product. Applications included washers and dryers, refrigerators, small appliances and construction products such as decking.
As indicated by its name, cold rolled steel, which is manufactured from chemically cleaned hot rolled coil, is processed while cold. Cold rolled steel must be processed further to keep it from reacting with air and water, and thereby forming rust. Cold rolled steel can be covered with a thin layer of oil to prevent oxygen from reacting with surface; the steel coils can be annealed to make the steel more formable; or the cold rolled steel can be further processed with a coating of either zinc (galvanize) or zinc-aluminium (galvalume). Cold rolled steel is available in a range of grades and properties for various applications.
